WE GET IT.
Local bands seldom get the attention they deserve. It seems these days that all anybody wants to hear are Top-40 hits, all written by the same dude in Nashville. Iowa doesn’t get much love from the industry either. They call us a flyover state. Boring.
LET’S DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
At Three One Nine, we believe that great art is being made right here in Eastern Iowa, and on Saturday, July 29th, we plan on proving it. We’re looking for great local bands, rappers, and singer-songwriters to join us as we show the world that the arts are alive and well in the Midwest. Together we can shake things up. If you are an Iowa-based act, we’d love to hear from you. Email your Epack or 1-sheet including your websites and contact information to email@example.com. Regional and national acts? Email us for consideration at firstname.lastname@example.org

The Rumours and their promiscuously riotesque intentions are gonna rip your heart out and leave you beggin’ for more.

Divinion defies classification, yet still maintains strong roots in the rock/metal genre. Musically, they’re continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible—keeping a careful balance between bleeding-edge musicianship and catchy songwriting. Drummer Jamie Lopata, guitarist Tom Foraker, vocalist Justin Rouse, and bassist Gregory Apple deliver addictive sledgehammer-metal riffs interwoven with diverse textures and colors setting them apart from lackluster garden-variety metal. Divinion band members are all schooled in the classics (Black Sabbath, Rush, Iron Maiden, J-Priest, Slayer, Testament, M-tallica, M-deth, Dream Theater, etc.) and can’t help but create great music of their own. If you get a chance to hear Divinion, you won’t soon forget about them!
(San Francisco, California) Punk
Dagmar is an indie classical, harmony driven band recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area from their prairie homeland of Iowa. A new music project with history, Gemma Cohen (vocals, bass) and Miranda Mallard (vocals, keyboard, guitar) are Dagmar’s core. They have attained sister status after having sung together for over 8 years in the trio Rock Paper Scissors, and now as Dagmar since 2014.
Gemma and Miranda create original music while rocking their curly manes and singing from the depths of their souls. Harmonies continue to be a staple for this duo along with influences ranging from Phillip Glass to the Fleet Foxes. Dagmar’s sound is raw, challenging, a vulnerable vocal driven exposition of Medieval harmonies and uncrumpled diaries.
The basement dwellers of X-Ray Mary have evolved once again into a new band of brothers. With blood brothers, Jason and Josh Bolinger holding down the rhythm section of drums and bass, respectively, and brothers-in-law Cory Canny and Elgn Arney on guitars and vocals—the spirit of founder Jimmie Dalton’s music carries on. Each member equally brings in his own voodoo magic to make the songs of X-Ray Mary a living, breathing rock and roll experience.
The ever-eclectic music of X-Ray Mary will lead you down the rabbit hole of sonic bliss. Foot-tapping punk rock grooves inspired by science fiction themes and B-Movies are their forte. Zombies, Hollywood celebrities, and diseases are not immune to the infectious beat of X-Ray Mary.
The Midwest-based Bleedchain is a powerhouse of hard-hitting guitar rhythms and leads, melodic & punchy bass lines, fast blood driving drums and kick-your-ass vocals/screams. The band is a combination of musicians from some of the heaviest original acts in the area.

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Alternative/Electronic
For Twinsmith, the occasion to make a third album came with an opportunity to distill their process down to its essential parts, and to re-focus the band’s perspective in order to fully embrace their sound. Longtime friends Smith and Regner had written a pair of records as Twinsmith, starting with 2013’s self-titled debut and then 2015’s Alligator Years – which earned press attention from outlets including NPR Music’s All Songs Considered, Interview, NYLON (‘Band Crush’), and Culture Collide, among others. While the lineup would grow to include bassist Sharp and other hired guns to round out the stage, the songwriting core learned to vary their approach while relying on each other to push the plot forward. Starting as DIY tinkerers in a basement, Smith and Regner would evolve their sound from hazy surf rock to a fuller, more dynamic guitar-and-keys pop appeal, making good use of the perks like recording studios and engineers that often come with progress. But as it came time to begin again for a new album, they found themselves looking back to the beginning, stripping back their process and recording in the dining room of their house using old synths and ‘80s drum machines.
